BIOGRAPHY

Montse Barniol (Gironella, 1982) is Doctor in Art History (2013) by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona with the thesis Sant Antoni Abat a Catalunya en els segles XIV-XV: relat, devoció i art. She was graduated by the same University in Art History (2004) winning the Extraordinary Award. Two years later, she got the Master of Advanced Studies with the project work El culte a sant Onofre a Catalunya en època gòtica i la seva traducció plàstica.

She got a predoctoral grant at the Art and Musicology Department of the UAB, where she taught Medieval Art and carried out her research. In 2007 (March-May) she completed an investigation stage at the Centre d’Études Supérieures de Civilisation Médiévale (CÉSCM) in Poitiers thanks to a Generalitat scholarship. She has taken part in different research projects; among them Modelos, influencias e intenciones en el arte de Aragón y Navarra de los siglos X-XIII (HUM2006-12475). Her research is focused on Catalan gothic art, mainly on hagiographical iconography. She has published many papers and participated in national and international meetings. She has also co-edited Bella i solemne. La creu gòtica dels Sants Màrtirs i la Cardona del seu temps, Cardona, 2010.
